ADDRESS BAR
• The address bar is the long bar usually at the top of a web browser
where we type in the web address of a website that we are interested
in visiting. It is also known as URL bar or location bar.
SEARCH BAR
• This is a smaller bar located usually at the top right of the browser
that is used for searching without first loading a search Engine. The
address bar can also do this as long as you don’t type in a web
domain in it.
URL
• URL is the web address of a computer that is connected on the
internet and has resources that other computers may want to access.
• Examples;
• www.majeri.ac.ug Types of URLs
Commercial URLs (.com)
• www.google.com
Academic URLs (.ac or .edu)
• www.gmail.com Organization URLs (.org)
• www.mak.ac.ug International organization (.int)
Governmental (.gov)
Webpage
• A webpage refers to a single page containing text, pictures, videos etc which
can be viewed on a web browser.
• E.g https://www.computerhope.com/tips/
Website
• Website is a collection of webpages with related information on it.
• E.g www.computerhope.com
Downloads
• Downloads are files which are got from the internet and copied to
your computer or phone. The process is called downloading
• They are normally stored in a folder known as Downloads.

Uploads
• Uploads are files which are copied to the internet from one’s phone
or computer or phone. It is done to have copies of your work in case
you lose your computer. It is paid for.
• The process of doing this is known as uploading.
BROWSING HISTORY
• It refers to collection of information about the different webpages and
websites that you have visited, the time and date you visited, and
other information. All this information is stored under browser
History.
Private browsing
• This refers to surfing the internet without leaving any
history behind. When you browse in the private
mode, nobody can find out what you have been
searching about.

• In Google Chrome, it is known as ‘Incognito mode’


Browser Tabs
• A tab in a browser is like a page of a browser which can have a web
page open. A browser can run several tabs at the same time, however
loading more than one page at a time makes the network slow hence
the pages take very long to open.
Browser windows
• This is a full browser program which can open several web pages
on different tabs and can run independently.

maximized,
restored, or
closed like any
other program
REFRESH BUTTON
• Refresh button helps us to request for a webpage again after we have
already requested for or got it without having to type the address
again.
HYPER LINK / LINK
• It is a picture, text or animation that directs you to another page or to
an action when you click. When you hover your cursor over a hyper
link, the cursor changes to a picture of a hand.
Navigation buttons
• They help you to go the previous webpage or to the next page that
you had already visited.
