HIV and AIDS Cases in MiMaRoPa Region


Findings: There were 33 cases confirmed by the STD/AIDS Cooperative Central Laboratory (SACCL)
and reported to the Philippine HIV and AIDS Registry from January to September 2014. Majority
(82%) were asymptomatic (Table 1). This was 6% of the 565 HIV Ab sero-positive individuals
reported nationwide in September 2014 (Figure 1).

Findings: Majority (91%) were male (Table 2). It also shows the same result as majority of the cases
(94%) were reported in the country.

Findings: Majority (64%) of those affected was the 25-34 years age group (Figure 3).
Ages of cases ranged from 17 to 49 (median 28 years).

Findings: Sexual contact was the most common mode of transmission. Figure 4 shows that 8
(46%) were acquired through bisexual contact, followed by homosexual contact
13 (39%) then heterosexual contact 5 (15%). There was no perinatal mode
of transmission reported from January to September 2014.
