The scale with one flat is F Major.

Notice the piano keys below. It is in
the Key of F.

Does it have sharp?

What accidental is used in the key?

Why do you think so?

You will notice that the black key used is in between A and B.
Since the pitch name A has already been taken, you will use B as
your pitch
name.

The needed black key is before the key B which means it lowers
the key by a semitone; therefore, you will name it as B . There is
a need to use accidental flat as required by the pattern in major
scale. If not, it will not be properly pitched.
Study the following scale.

The flat should be put on the third line.

The home tone of F Major Scale is
located at
the first space of the staff.
Study the following scale.
Remember that minor scale in C Major has the so-fa
syllable la. In
movable do, you can easily identify that its minor key is
the tonic la. In fixed do, the minor key has its different
tonic. From the higher home tone, you have to go down a
whole and a half step to identify the minor scale. F Major
starts its tonic on F. How about its relative minor scale?
What is the sixth degree in the Key of F Major?
Observe the scale below. This scale is the sixth degree in
the Key of F Major. The relative minor key of F Major
Scale is D minor scale.
Using the same pattern in major scales, white keys can
be used to
name pitches with flats. Again, this is to avoid the
repetition of pitch names.
It is applicable especially when the major scale itself
has flat.

COMPOSING A SIMPLE MELODY OR SONG

There are things to be considered in composing your
own song. Study
the first two lines from the lyrics of the Nationalistic
Song “Pilipinas Kong
Mahal”.
When you analyze the first line, it seems that
it is stating a fact and
the second line strongly supports it. On the
other side, the first line seems
to be asking a question and the second line
answers it. The next lines of the song support
the first two lines, as shown below.
There are other factors you need to
consider in creating your own
song. As to content, the last word of
each line should regard rhyming
words
as much as possible, the same way
as writing poems.

In writing a song, the message should be clearly conveyed. In
making a melody, it must be catchy and interesting so that the
audience and the listeners may enjoy it although there are
many genres (kinds or variety of songs) to choose from.
Observe the singers how they perform in front of their
audience.

Can you describe their performance? Can you imitate them?

There are so many insights that the professional singers and
performers share with the amateur singers. They are as
follows:
1. Sing with your heart.
2. Communicate with your audience through singing.
3. Understand what the message of the song conveys
before you sing it.
4. Confidence is a must.
5. Perform like it will be the last (even if it is your very
first performance).
Direction: Create your own song having at least two motifs
(verse and refrain or chorus) in any major key. Write a title to

your teacher. Be guided by the rubrics given.

If we will not be able to manage our waste properly, the
environment will be destroyed because of pollution and
garbage problem. Cities like in Metro Manila produce tons
of garbage yet do not have the facility to dispose
them. These wastes are collected and are brought to
landfills.

Due to the growing population, more wastes are produced

and much of these are non-biodegradable, majority is
plastic. Plastic pollution causes harm to humans, animals
and plants through toxic pollutants.
It can take
hundreds or even thousands of years for
plastic to break down so the
environmental damage is long-lasting.
We can save our environment for the future
generations from the
harmful effects brought about by the wastes
that we produce. The collective
effort of the community to take clean and
green living will help preserve our
planet.
Here are the community programs in waste management that
can help preserve the environment:
1. National Clean-Up
“Bayan Ko, Linis Ko” Program

This Nationwide clean-up activities promotes cleanliness in

coastal, inland waterways, esteros, creeks, public places,
roads and major throughfares. It expands clean-up activities
during the National Clean Up Month (September) per
Proclamation No. 244, Series of 1993 to all LGUs in the
country. It also encourages volunteerism and foster the
participation of all sectors to include government, NGOs/civil
society groups, schools, churches and the private sector.

This project the aims to awareness, educate

youth on sustainability and incentive recycling
in Pasig City and is currently active across 32
public schools in the city. This initiative teaches
the value of recycling by encouraging students
to bring non-biodegradable waste to school in
xchange for rewards.

indigents in Pasig City to earn
money through transforming wastes into
new usable materials. It also teach

people. They were instructed to separate
biodegradable and non-biodegradable
household waste and to place them properly in sealed
garbage bags, otherwise they

also a specific for the collection
of the segregated wastes.
5. Materials Recovery Facility (MRF): Towards a Zero Waste
Community The MRF promotes community-based solid waste
management to resolve the improper waste disposal
problems in the communities. It also promotes
waste reduction and waste recovery. These facilities process
solid wastes such as plastics, cartons, cans and turn them into
by-products like pavers, hollow blocks, plastic tiles, and
organic compost. Kitchen wastes are also taken care of
through a vermicomposting facility, which uses worms to
decompose the waste
and turn them into organic fertilizer.
