Common Rock Forming Minerals
Common Rock Forming Minerals
DAY 2
Basalt is a fine-grained volcanic rock that forms from
the rapid cooling of lava at or near the Earth's
surface. It is composed mostly of dark-colored
minerals
Tuff rock, also simply known as “tuff,” is a type
of sedimentary rock that forms from the
consolidation of volcanic ash and other volcanic
debris.
pumice, a very porous, froth like volcanic glass
that has long been used as an abrasive in
cleaning, polishing, and scouring compounds.
Granite is an igneous rock composed of mostly two
minerals: quartz and feldspar. It is an intrusive rock,
meaning that it crystallized from magma that cooled
far below the Earth's surface. Its name is derived
from the Latin word 'granum,' which means 'grain,' a
reference to the easily-seen minerals in the rock.
