Grade 4 PPT - Math - Q1 - Lesson 18

The document discusses dividing 3 to 4 digit numbers by 10, 100, or 1000 without remainder. It provides examples, rules for dividing numbers with zeros, word problems, and assessment questions. The goal is for students to understand how to divide larger numbers by 10, 100, or 1000 by removing zeros from the dividend based on the number of zeros in the divisor.

Performing the Activities
Solution 1: The long method Solution 2: The short method

200 ÷ 10 = 20
200 ÷ 10 = 20
Processing the Activities

• How did you find the quotient?

• Did we have the same quotient in the
two methods used
• Which one is easier to use, the long
method or the short one?
For the short method:
• How is the short method done?
• What pattern is being used?
• How many zeros are there in the
dividend? In the divisor?
• Which of the two will be your
reference when you cancel the number
of zeros to make the division easier
and faster?

A stadium that needs 5000 chairs
is being constructed for a city. If the
chairs will be arranged in 10 rows,
how many chairs are there in a row?
If the chairs are to be arranged in
100 rows, how many chairs will
there be in a row How about
arranging the chairs by 1000 rows
that are group by section, how many
chairs will there be in a row?
Study the solution below.
1) 2) 3)

Therefore: 5000 ÷ 10 = 500

5000 ÷ 100 = 50
5000 ÷ 1000 = 5
Compare the number of zeros in the
dividend and divisor. Then, look at the
number of zeros in the quotient. Also
compare the dividend and the quotient.
What pattern can you find?
When dividing a number by 10, 100, or
1000, you can cancel or remove as many
zeros in the dividend as there are in the
divisor. The remaining digits in the
dividend is the quotient.
Follow the rule to complete the table.

Generalization

To divide numbers by 10, 100, or 1000

cancel/remove as many zeros in the
dividend as there are in the divisor. Then,
divide the remaining numbers.
Find the missing dividend, divisor, or quotient

1. N ÷ 1 000 = 8
2. 700 ÷ N = 70
3. 400 ÷ 10 = N
4. N ÷ 100 = 39
5. 620 ÷ N = 62
Solve each problem.

vinegar?
3. There are 100 cm in a meter. If a road is 742 000 long, how
many meters long is it
4. How many meters long is a ribbon that is 2500-cm long?
5. Suppose you had ₱ 1,000,000 in ₱ 100-bills. If you could
give away one ₱ 100-bill in a minute, how long would it take
you to give away all the money.
