Introduction

•There are several different types of stairs. A few examples of these are
L-shaped, straight, spiral, U-shaped, bifurcated, and cantilever.
•A split staircase can also be referred to a bifurcated. These stairs start
with one main staircase that splits at the first landing into two separate
flights.
…..cont.
• A straight staircase is constructed first by taking basic measurements.
The framework is built and put in place, and then the designated
material (such as wood, tile, or concrete) is applied to finish the
product.
• There are three basic features to every staircase. The riser is the
vertical space connecting the steps. The tread is the part of the step
that someone stands on. The stringer is the side board that connects the
stairs.
Stairs Definition

• What is a staircase?
• Staircases are a series of steps leading from one level of a building to
another.
• Staircases are a very commonly seen architecture feature and have
many different styles.
• Even though staircases seem like simple building features, they have
been the focal point in many songs, movies, and poems that make
them quite fascinating.
Elements and Parts of a Staircase Diagram

•There are many different elements to s staircases. Here are some

diagrams to show the different features:

Staircase Construction

• There are certain universal steps to building staircases, but also

specific steps depending on the type of stairs and what material is
being used.
• First, a design for the staircase needs to be created using standard
staircase dimension measurements.
• A measurement of the designated space for the staircase is also
needed. Then the foundation is built.
• The framework for the structure is then created and installed. After the
framework, the staircase construction is completed specific to design
material.
..…
cont.
• For concrete, metal rods are added for support, the concrete is poured,
and when it is dry, the framework is removed.
• For wood stairs, the framework would be turned into the finished
product by installing the desired wood type onto the framework, and
then adding paint or stain as desired.
• A metal staircase would have a metal frame installed and may require
paint as well.

Types of Staircase Architecture

• As noted, there are many different types of stairs. Stairs' architecture

can be extremely diverse in shape, colour, design, and material. There
are straight stairs, U-shaped stairs, curved, spiral, cantilever,
bifurcated, and split stairs.
• A straight staircase design is the most basic design for stairs.

Straight Style of Stairs

• L-Shaped staircases, another more common type,
have a landing in the middle that creates a break in
the stairs before reaching the next floor level. As
the name suggest, these stairs look like the letter L.

L-Shaped Stairs
Winder stairs are a variation of L-shaped stairs.
