Describe the setting of the story. When and where do you
think the story takes place?

Based on the story, the narrative of “Fighting the Cold”


takes place in the village of Sindhupalchowk. The setting
was taken after the earthquake in April which caused
much destruction and loss.

What happened to the main character of the story?

His house was ravaged by the earthquake and then came


the landslide in front him and make him lost his wife and
five-years-old son.

How does the man feel?

The man in the story shows a variety of emotions,


including feelings of loss and despair. He describes feeling
sickened by the destruction in the village after losing his
wife and son in the earthquake.

Three characteristics of the city people are educated,


deceitful and some of them are kind.

What cause the man to think that he has become ‘less
human’?

The man thinks that he has become “less human”


because of the loss of his wife and son. Other than that,
he lost his house cause of an earthquake and landslide
that made him feel desensitized.

No. It is because the city people had come to their village


to distribute blankets. In addition, a few young people
from the city gave him and his daughter an extra blanket
after they seeing his daughter.

No, the leader doesn’t help the victims of the earthquake


because they only think about themselves even though
they have so much money.

He see a family crying over a body and he go near also see


an old man has died because of cold. He feel so bad and
shutter because initially thought someone crying for do
something melodramas in a midnight.

In our opinion, both the man and his daughter died


because of the cold. In the story, the villagers went to
their tent and open it as they see the man and his
daughter were fast asleep in cold.

need the most?

In our opinion, shelter is the kind of help that these


people need the most because the weather is going to be
extremely cold which can make them die in cold.

Give three effects of natural disaster as discussed in
the story.

First, the effect of natural disaster discussed in the story is lost


a person we loved and care the most. As an example, the man
lost his wife and his five years old son in earthquake. Second,
we lost our place to stay and rest. In the story, the man lost
his house due to landslide. Lastly, lack of basic needs like food
and drinks. As the story told, the man can’t even consume the
amount of food that humans need anymore because he lives
in a tent for a long time.
