ELEMENTS
What is visual media?
It is the good source of data or information in the
form of visual representation.

It includes abstractions, analogues, rough illustrations


or digital representation of objects or subjects.
What is visual media?
It is important to know how to interpret different
forms of visual media because it helps you, as a reader
in clarifying and comprehending information.

Through properly interpreting visual elements, you will


be able to develop own perception of the content and
avoid misinterpretation.

Some forms of visual media, both visual or digital are
paintings, caricatures, posters, murals drawings,
infographics and comics

It is interpreted through looking at the visual


elements. These are lines, shape, color, direction, size,
texture and value
Lines
These are the set of points extending in both
directions, used to create shapes, forms and textures.

It can vary in direction, length and width.

Horizontal –width, distance, stability
Vertical- height, strength, unshakeable.
Diagonal - movement and lack of stability.
Zigzag- action, excitement, restlessness, and anxiety
Curve – comfort and ease
Symbols
These instantly make people think of traits or message
that they want to associate with the subject.

These help us recognize, identify and recall images


than text. These are commonly uses signage and logos.

It is a powerful visual element which it can
create varied emotions. Colors suggest different
meanings and emotions.

Orange- joy, enthusiasm, fascination,
happiness, creativity, determination
attraction, success and
encouragement.

Yellow- happiness, optimism, creativity,


cowardice and madness

Black, White and Gray – simplicity and balance
Green- nature related, freshness, fertility
Rainbow- Friendly, Youthful
Red- warm, anger, violence blood and passion
Blue – cool, calmness, peace trust, faith in heaven

It means stare or look fixedly at something. It
means to look steadily and intently at something
especially at which excites admiration, curiosity
and interest.

to highlight the subject in a particular frame.

It can be positive or negative.
