The Taj Mahal

The Taj Mahal is considered one of the new Seven Wonders of the World. The huge 1. ____________

located on the banks of the Yamuna River in Agra, India. It is a stunning example of Mughal architecture,
with its Persian, Islamic, and Indian influences. Built from beautiful white marble, the structure seems to
change colour depending on the time of day. It houses the tombs of the Mughal emperor Shah Jahan and
his wife.

Shah Jahan came to power in 1628. At his side was his 2. ___________,
wife Mumtaz Mahal. The couple were
very much in love. In 1631, Mumtaz Mahal died after giving birth to their 14th child. Grief-stricken, Shah

The Taj Mahal is set within beautiful gardens. Seeing the structure for the first time takes many visitors’
