Past Perfect
Perfect = Before
It refers to a completed action that happened in
the past before another action also in the past.
Example:
Tommy doesn’t have his homework
TODAY
because his dog ate it.
I had already eaten the chocolate, when she told me it was hers.
By the time, after, before, until, until then -> usually at the beginning or
ending of the phrase depending on context.
