1. When do we say that two terms


are like terms? Unlike terms?
Only like radicals—those which are of the
same root of the same number—can be
combined. The preceding example in the
activity shows like radicals. By contrast,
examples of unlike radicals are

2 5 and 2 3, Radicands are different

as well as 2 3 and 2 3 3. Indices are different

Note that 5 + 3 5 cannot be simplified.

It is very easy to add and subtract radicals if the two
are like radicals. If the two are not like, we cannot simply
add or subtract them. In real life, finding friends is very easy
if we focus only on the likes and interests that are common
with each other. But what if, a person would like to be a
friend of yours, but you are a complete opposite with each
other, will you still be friend with him?
