Some of the popular sports were archery, wrestling, chariot racing, chess, and polo.
Modern India: Sports became a symbol of national pride and

• Cricket: India is one of the most successful and
dominant teams in the world, having won the World Cup in 1983, 2011 and the World Twenty20 in 2007 and the Champions Trophy in 2002 and 2013 • Hockey: India is the most successful team in the history of the Olympic Games, having won eight gold medals, one silver medal, and two bronze medals. India also won the World Cup in 1975 and the Champions Trophy in 2016 • Badminton: India has produced some of the world’s best players, such as Prakash Padukone, Pullela Gopichand, Saina Nehwal, P.V. Sindhu, and K. Srikanth. India has won medals at the Olympic Games, the World Championships, the Commonwealth Games, and the Asian Games Challenges of Indian Sports
