TEACHING OF

SCIENCE
NATURE OF SCIENCE
●(1) tentativeness of scientific
knowledge
●(2) nature of observation
●(3) scientific methods
●(4) hypotheses, laws, and
theories
A hypothesis is an assumption made
before any research has been done. It is
formed so that it can be tested to see if it
might be true.
A scientific theory is something that
answers why and it has been tested
repeatedly and has so far always been
true.
A law is a mathematical statement that
(5) Imagination
(6) validation of scientific knowledge
(7) objectivity and subjectivity in science
"Everybody starts out as a scientist. Every child has
the scientist's sense of wonder and awe." Sustaining
this sense of wonder presents teachers, parents, and
others close to children with a tremendous
responsibility—and an extraordinary opportunity. –
SCIENTIFIC TRAITS
CURIOSITY
Being aware and inquisitive about
what’s happening around. A curious
scientist is a good observer and
immediately notices the changes and
peculiarities of all living things.
HUMILITY
A true scientist is not boastful
and arrogant of her/his success.
Determination
Persistent in achieving her/his goals
and always confident despite
unexpected problems that might
arise through the course of the
studies.
PATIENCE
Experiment and investigation are
essential in studying science.
However, results are not quick. A
true biologist must wait calmly
for the results to arrive.
CREATIVITY
A scientist must be able to make
her/his own scientific ideas and do
not copy the ideas of others. For
instance, you, as a scientist, must be
able to answer or think of your own
ideas when answering questions in
your laboratory activities.
ACCEPTANCE OF FAILURE
We are not perfect. In fact, many
famous scientists through the
progress of their studies and
experimentation faced difficulties
and failures. However, these
incidents did not stop them from
reaching their goals. They used their
failures as motivation and stepping
CAREFUL JUDGMENT
A scientist does not
immediately make
conclusions or deduction.
Everything must be
observed and analyzed
carefully.
OPEN-MINDEDNESS
An open-minded scientist
willingly accepts ideas,
comments, suggestions, and
criticisms from other scientist
or people.
OBJECTIVITY
Out of gained results or
data from investigations or
observations, a scientist
must be able to record
them truthfully and
accurately.
