UASB

The document discusses a UASB reactor, which is an anaerobic wastewater treatment process using a single tank. Industrial wastewater flows into the bottom and forms granular sludge as microorganisms degrade pollutants, producing biogas. The sludge blanket is kept in suspension and a separator recovers biogas while retaining sludge in the reactor.

• UASB REACTOR IS A SINGLE TANK PROCESS

GENERALLY USED IN ANAEROBIC INDUSTRIAL
WASTEWATER TREATMENT THAT SEEKS TO
ACHIEVE THE REMOVAL OF ORGANIC
POLLUTANTS.
Things Already ANAEROBIC TREATMENT MEANS THAT IT
USES NO AIR OR OXYGEN IN ITS PROCESS.
Known THE MICROORGANISMS CONVERT THE
ORGANIC POLLUTANTS INTO BIOGAS THAT
CONTAINS METHANE AND CARBON
DIOXIDE
UASB
• Industrial wastewater or blackwater flows into the
bottom of an anaerobic upflow tank. Accumulated
sludge forms granules. Microorganisms living in the
UASB Working granules degrade organic pollutants by anaerobic
digestion. The sludge blanket is kept in suspension by
the flow regime and formed gas bubbles. A separator
at the top of the reactor allows to recover biogas for
energy production, nutrient effluent for agriculture
and to retain the sludge in the reactor. Sludge
accumulation is low (emptying is only required
every few years) and the sludge is stabilised and can
be used as soil fertiliser

• Brown Water – Water with Faeces
• Fertigation Water – Water with Fertilizers (Nutrients), NPK as nutrient removal is
low so effluent water will be having lots of them.
