Competitive Advantage
The importance of meeting
consumers demands
Getting Started
Track with me: As we know, our wants and desires are infinite.
From cars, to shoes, to PlayStation or Xbox games, the demand to
produce all these goods is forever increasing.

Discuss: Is it possible for Australia to produce ALL of these goods

ourselves?

Task 1: Make a list of all the goods you have wanted over the last
two weeks (minimum 5).
Getting Started
Now that you have your list of goods, your second task is to identify some key
countries where that good is famously produced

Examples:

- If I desire pasta, pizza or ice-cream I may go to Italy

- If I desire a coffee I may go to Brazil or Columbia

- If I desire sushi I may go to Japan

- If I desire a sports car I may go to Germany

- If I desire a new laptop I may go to China

Getting Started
Now that you have your list of goods and where to produce or purchase them from, it is
now your job to pick one of your examples.

Your last task is to identify how businesses that sell that product in your country of
choice attracts consumers to their business compared to other businesses in that country.

Examples: Italy & Ice-cream

- Mr. Rajecki’s Gelato business has discounts! Three for Two deal on Ice-cream cones
sold on Friday.
- Mrs. Ostberg’s Gelato business claims to use only raw ingredients in her gelato and
is 100% gluten free!
What is Competitive Advantage?
Kuhm – peh – tuh – tuhv / Uhd – vaan – tuhj

Definition: a condition or circumstance that puts a company in a favourable

or superior business position.

Used in a sentence: A competitive advantage gives a business the ability to

outperform other similar businesses in a market.

Examples: Dominoes offering a lower price on value range pizzas to attract

more consumers to their products, or Puma fuel stations offering discounts for
RAC members only.
Gaining a Competitive Advantage
