Problem.... New 2

The document discusses a study on the effect of communication sign boards on satisfaction levels of mechanically ventilated patients. It outlines the background, objectives, hypotheses, methodology including variables, tools, sample and data collection plan of the study. The study aims to evaluate the impact of sign boards on patient satisfaction by comparing pre and post-test satisfaction scores between experimental and control groups.

EFFECT OF COMMUNICATION SIGN BOARD

ON SATISFACTION OF MECHANICALLY
VENTILATED PATIENTS
BACKGROUND AND SIGNIFICANCE OF THE
STUDY

Mechanical ventilation is indicated when the patients

spontaneous ventilation is inadequate to maintain life .
Patients who are connected to a mechanical ventilator are
unable to communicate effectively with significant others.

These patients experience physical and emotional stress,

which is related to the unfamiliar surroundings and the
limitations caused by the process of ventilation.
Communicating effectively with ventilator dependent
patients is essential so that various basic physiological and
psychological needs can be conveyed .
BACKGROUND AND SIGNIFICANCE OF THE
STUDY

A study conducted in Fortis-Escorts

Hospital, Amritsar on May 2020 revealed
that inability to express the needs and
problems of patients during mechanical
ventilation also leads to feelings of
negativism and anxiety among the patients.
Hence, it is necessary to have means to
communicate when speech is not an option.
OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY

To evaluate the effect of Communication Sign

Board on Satisfaction by comparing the post test
score of experimental and control group.

To find the association of post test satisfaction

level of experimental group with selected
baseline variables
OPERATIONAL DEFINITIONS

EFFECT: Refers to the impact or outcome

resulting from the implementation of
signboards for mechanically ventilated patients
as measured by

SIGN BOARD : refers to a display board or

panel that contains information, instructions,
warnings, or notices.
OPERATIONAL DEFINITIONS
(Cont…)

SATISFACTION: Refers…..

MECHANICALLY VENTILATED PATIENTS:

Refers to individuals who require mechanical
assistance with breathing due to a variety of
medical conditions
HYPOTHESES

H1: There is significant difference in the post test

satisfaction score of experimental and control group
H2- There is association between satisfaction score of
experimental group with selected baseline variables
RESEARCH METHODOLOGY

Research Approach : Quantitative

Research Design: Quasi experimental

Research variables

Independent variables: Communication Signboards

Dependent variables: Satisfaction

Research Setting : ICU of TMM hospital Thiruvalla

Population:The patients admitted to ICUs
in TMM Hospital and on mechanical
ventilator without any sedation

Sample size :40

Sampling technique :Purposive sampling

 Patients capable of utilizing a communication board.
 Patients willing to participate in the study.

Exclusion criteria:

 Mechanically ventilated patients unable to use a

communication board due to physical or cognitive
limitations
 Patients with significant communication barriers apart
from those addressed by the communication board.
