Stealing of ideas
Do you think the law
should protect our
ideas?
Intellectual Property
Intellectual Property or “IP”
• IP refers to the creations of the mind, such as
inventions; literary and artistic works; designs
and symbols; names and images used in
commerce which are protected by the law.
• So make sure that when you write academic
papers, you list your sources since they are
actually protected by the law
Why cite sources?
• Gives credit to the author
• Provides you and the reader with more
information about the sources
• Shows credibility
• Prevents plagiarism, an act of stealing someone
else’s idea and presenting them as your own
Take a look at these
samples • How many sources do you see?
How to write sources?
• List them on a separate paper
• Usually, sources are found on the later part of a book
• This page is what we call a
