WHY ARE ABBREVIATIONS USED IN
MANSCRIPTS
Abbreviations are often used in manuscripts and written documents for
various reasons, including efficiency, clarity, and tradition. Here are some
common reasons why abbreviations are employed:

• Space and Time Efficiency: Abbreviations help save space on the page, which
can be crucial in manuscripts, especially when there are constraints on the
number of pages or words allowed. They also save time for the writer, as using
shorter forms of words allows for quicker writing and typing.

• Clarity and Readability: In some cases, abbreviations are used to enhance

clarity by simplifying complex or lengthy terms. This is particularly common in
scientific, technical, and medical writing, where specialized terminology can be
challenging for readers. Abbreviations can make the text more accessible to those
familiar with the field.
WHY ARE ABBREVIATIONS USED IN
MANSCRIPTS
• Consistency: Abbreviations provide a consistent and
standardized way to refer to terms throughout a document. This
can be especially important in academic and technical writing,
where precision and consistency are valued.

• Reducing Repetition: Abbreviations can help avoid

redundancy and repetition, especially when referring to
commonly used terms. Once an abbreviation is introduced and
defined, it can be used throughout the document without having
to repeat the full term.
