What is Prototyping

REPORTER:
MR. GIDEON OLIVER TAN
Prototyping is an experimental process where
design teams implement ideas into tangible
forms from paper to digital.
What is a Prototype?
Prototype is an early sample, model or release of a product created to test a
concept or process. Typically, a prototype is used to evaluate a new design to
improve the accuracy of analysts and system users. It is the step between the
formalization and the evaluation of an idea.
What is the importance of a
Prototype?
• Validate the design of the product
• Present to investors or licensees
• Protect the Intellectual property
• Remove kinks in manufacturing
• Test and refine the final product
EXAMPLE OF PROTOTYPE

 Prototypes come in many types and shapes. It all
depends on the reason for what a prototype is
created.

WHAT ARE THE

QUALITIES OF A
GOOD PROTOTYPE?

1. Representation: A prototype is a
rudimentary representation of the actual
product.
• It represents how the product will look
and/or work like.

2. Precision: More precise the prototype,
better the response and feedback.
• Evidence that the quality and
functionality of the product was
considered.
•Provides reasonable confidence that
a product is ready to move forward
to production (only after testing,
examination and, potentially,
additional prototype stages).
It MUST BE PRECISE because it is an
early sample, model or release of a product
created to test a concept or process.
3. Functional: A good prototype performs the
basic functions of the actual product (if
possible)
• Consists of relevant characteristics of the actual
product
• Purposive example, rather than simply an illustration

4. Improvisation: A good prototype is one
which can be improvised on with minimum effort.
• This one of the most important aspect of
prototyping as a prototype is subject to many
improvisations.

Producing Theoretical Sketch Plan
A Sketch Plan is an illustrative plan and a concept
drawing for a development project. It is a preliminary plan
that is less detailed than working drawing.
Constructing Computer Generated Imagery
 Computer-Generated Imagery, or CGI, is a term that
describes digitally created images in film and
television.
 CGI is a subcategory of visual effects, imagery
film makers create or manipulate that does not
exist in the physical environment being captured
on film or video.
 CGI is also called 3D imaging or 3D Rendering.
CGI usually refers to the 3D computer graphics
used to create characters, scenes, and other
special effects in movies, television, and games.
Building an Authentic and Tangible
Prototype

It is the final and actual product of the

theoretical sketch plan and computer generated
imagery. It serves as the final output of the
prototype ideas.
The procedures of prototyping are important aspects in
creating an organize presentation of output or product.
The physical models allow an inspection of the
design and analysis of the geometric form, usually
difficult to be observed as a whole in sketches ,
layout and 3D models.
