Planets &
01 Stars
What are planets? And what are
stars?
What Are
Planets?
Planets are celestial bodies moving in an
elliptical orbit around a star. Planets moving
around a star are called planetary systems.
The solar system is an example of a
planetary system.
What Are
Stars?
Stars are huge celestial bodies made mostly
of hydrogen and helium that produce light
and heat from the churning nuclear forges
inside their cores. Aside from our sun, the
dots of light we see in the sky are all light-
years from Earth. They are the building
blocks of galaxies, of which there are
billions in the universe.

02Dwarf Planets
Is Pluto actually a dwarf planet?
Yes! Pluto is a dwarf
planet!
What is a dwarf
planet?
A dwarf planet is a celestial body
resembling a small planet lacking certain
criteria like not having cleared the
neighborhood around its orbit.

around other stars are called exoplanets.
Thousands of these extrasolar planets, a term usually
shortened to “exoplanets,” have been found, including a few
potentially Earth-like worlds, along with bizarre objects that
bear no resemblance to any of the planets in our solar
system. ht t ps

04Asteroids
“And we love to hit planets! Especially

What are
Asteroids?
A small rocky body orbiting the sun. Large
numbers of these, ranging enormously in
size, are found between the orbits of Mars
and Jupiter.
