HISTORY AND BACKGROUND

 Sr. Callista Roy is a prominent nurse theorist, writer, lecturer, researcher and teacher.
 Professor and Nurse Theorist at the Boston College of Nursing in Chestnut Hill.
 Born in Los Angeles on October 14, 1939 as the 2nd child of Mr. and Mrs. Fabien
Roy
 She entered the Sisters of Saint Joseph Carondelet.
 She earned her Master's Degree in Pediatric Nursing from the University of
California, Los Angeles in 1966.
 Sr. Callista Roy had the significant opportunity of working with Dorothy E Johnson.
Overview of Adaptation Model

The Adaptation Model of Nursing is a prominent nursing


theory aiming to explain or define the provision of nursing science.
In her theory, Sister Callista Roy’s model sees the individual as a
set of interrelated systems that maintain a balance between various
stimuli.

-Promotes proper care for a patient by taking a holistic approach
Makes a nurse take a step back and look at all patient’s life that affect their health wellness.

-Promotes positive adaptation


-Defines the goals and expectations of nursing in their practice by providing a
structured 6 step process to follow
-Improves nursing and patient care
