Coffee Grounds and Composting
Coffee Grounds and Composting
composting
STT NEW IDEA
Composting used coffee
• The moist, small particles of coffee grounds are certainly an excellent
compost ingredient because of their texture, to mix with dry and
woody waste to speed the composting process. Ensuring a balanced
mix of ‘wet’ and ‘dry’ materials is the best way to achieve good
compost. The nutrients contained in coffee grounds will be recycled
back onto the soil when finished compost is used as a mulch or dug
into the soil. Also add any un-drunk coffee to dry material in a
compost bin.
•Mix coffee grounds with other compostable materials, such as leaves, grass clippings, and vegetable scraps.
•Ensure our compost pile has a good balance of "green" (nitrogen-rich) and "brown" (carbon-rich) materials.
•We maintain proper moisture levels in the compost pile by adding water if it's too dry or "brown" materials if it's
too wet.
•Turning the compost pile every few weeks to promote decomposition and aeration.
•Monitoring and adjusting the compost pile as needed to maintain optimal conditions.
•Wait for the coffee grounds and other organic matter to break down into nutrient-rich compost.
•Use the compost in our garden to enrich the soil and support plant growth.
