OBJECTIVE

The objective of a dual-axis solar tracker with Maximum Power Point Tracking
(MPPT) is to optimize the efficiency of solar panels by dynamically adjusting
both horizontal and vertical angles.
This allows the panels to continuously face the sun, maximizing sunlight
exposure.
MPPT ensures the system operates at the optimal voltage and current levels,
further enhancing energy harvesting.Ultimately, the goal is to increase overall
energy output and improve the performance of solar power systems.
INTRODUCTION

• A solar tracker with MPPT, or Maximum Power Point Tracking, is a device

that enhances the efficiency of solar panels by continuously adjusting their
orientation and optimizing the power output.
• The solar tracker follows the sun's path, adjusting the panels' tilt and
azimuth angles to maintain an optimal angle of incidence.
• This dynamic adjustment improves the panels' exposure to sunlight
throughout the day, increasing overall energy production.

COMPONENTS

• Solar Panels
• Motor for Dual-axis movement
• Microcontroller (eg: Arduino)
• Sensors
• MPPT Controller
• Light Detecting Resistor
SOLAR PANEL

• Solar panels are those devices which are used to absorb the sun's rays and
convert them into electricity or heat.
• Most solar panels are made up using crystalline silicon solar cells.
MOTOR FOR DUAL- AXIS MOVEMENT

• In Solar tracking system we are using DC Gear Motors.

• DC Gear Motors are most commonly used in vehicle industries such as
truck power cranes, windscreen wiper motors, plus power seats or power
window motors.
RATING OF DC GEAR MOTOR

• Operating Voltage: 12V DC

• Gear box: Attached Plastic(spur) Gear box
• Shaft Diameter: 6mm with internal hole
• Torque: 1 kg-cm
• No Load Current: 60mA(max)
• Load Current: 300mA(max)
MICROCONTROLLER (ARDUINO)

• Arduino UNO is a microcontroller board based on the ATmega328P.

• It has 14 digital input/output pins (of which 6 can be used as PWM
outputs), 6 analog inputs, a 16 MHz ceramic resonator, a USB connection,
a power jack, an ICSP header and a reset button.
SENSOR INPUTS

• Utilize sensors like light-dependent resistors or photodiodes to measure

sunlight intensity.
• Include a compass or GPS module for azimuth angle determination.

• Use an inclinometer or tilt sensor for altitude angle measurement.

MPPT CONTROLLER
• The MPPT controllers are DC–DC converters, providing a matching
interface between the PV generator and the battery.
• The main function of the MPPT controller is to adjust the PV generator
output in order to transfer maximum energy to the batteries.
LIGHT DETECTING RESISTORS

• A type of resistor that changes resistance based on the intensity of light.

• LDRs are also known as photo resistors, photocells, or photoconductors.

ADVANTAGES AND DISASADVANTAGES
Advantages:-
• Increased Energy Output
• Enhanced Efficiency
• Seasonal and Daily Tracking
• Improved Performance in Low-Light Conditions
• Reduced Installation Footprint
