Satellite DBS receiver(Outdoor unit)
• It consists of indoor unit and outdoor unit. Out door unit includes a
parabolic reflector with horn mounted at focus. An offset feed may
be used.
• 12.2 : 12.7 GHz signal is received then reflected from the reflector
antenna to the feed horn. Then to low noise amplifier (LNA) followed
by down converter. Their combination is referred to as a low noise
block (LNB)
• It amplifies the broad band signal then down converts it to 950:
1450 MHz to coaxial cable feeder to the indoor unit. That carry DC to
the outdoor unit also.

• Indoor unit includes the following: it amplifies the signal
then pass to tracking filter which selects the desired signal.
Then down converted from 950 : 1450 MHz to a fixed
frequency 70 MHz. It amplifies the IF signal ( 70MHz) up to
the level required by demodulator. The 70 MHz frequency
modulated signal is demodulated. The base band signal is
used to generate a VSSB signal that fed to the TV monitor
of the standard TV set.

• C-band VSAT remote terminal
• ODU in transmitter incudes up converters in which 70MHz is up
converted into 6175 MHz. Then power amplifier (PA) which is solid
state power amplifier (SSPA) type that amplifies the signal . Finally
transmits it to the antenna. It is called high power converter (HPC)
that includes: RF conversion and amplification.
• In receiver, low noise amplifier (LNA) where the signal is amplified
not the noise. Then down converter that down converted 3950 MHz
into 70MHz. It is called low noise converter (LNC) that includes: RF
amplification and IF conversion.
