Contour
• Contours are imaginary lines drawn on a map joining all places with
the same altitude above and below mean sea level, which are fixed
by accurate survey.
Contour
• Sometimes, formlines are used between two contour lines which are
of estimated altitude. These are expressed with dash lines.
Contour Characteristics
• A series of approximately
concentric closed contour
lines represents a
depression or pond if the
lower values are inside. A
series of approximately
concentric closed contour
represents a hill if the
higher values are inside.
Contour Characteristics
• Must close on
themselves, on or off
the map
• Contours generally
do not intersect or
cross one another.
