The National Skills Qualifications
Framework (NSQF)
• The National Skills Qualifications Framework (NSQF) in India is a competency-
based framework that organizes qualifications according to a series of levels,
based on knowledge, skills, and aptitude. Here's a breakdown of its content

1. *Levels*: NSQF has 10 levels, ranging from Level 1 (basic) to Level 10 (highest
competency), covering various educational qualifications, from school education to
doctoral degrees.
2. *Sector Skill Councils (SSCs)*: These are industry-led bodies responsible for
identifying skill gaps, designing competency standards, and accrediting training
providers. SSCs are aligned with NSQF to ensure relevance and quality in skill
development.

• 3. *Qualification Packs (QPs)*: These are occupational standards developed by

SSCs, defining the competencies required for specific job roles within industries.
QPs form the basis for curriculum development and assessment.

• 4. *National Occupational Standards (NOS)*: These are detailed descriptions of

the knowledge, skills, and attitudes required for performing a particular job role
effectively. NOS serve as the benchmarks for assessment and certification.
• 5. *Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)*: NSQF promotes the recognition and
validation of skills acquired through informal means or prior experience. RPL
allows individuals to obtain formal certification for their existing skills, enhancing
employability.

• 6. *Quality Assurance*: NSQF ensures quality in skill development through

various mechanisms, including accreditation of training providers, certification of
assessors, and regular monitoring and evaluation.

• 7. *Credit Accumulation and Transfer (CAT)*: NSQF facilitates the accumulation

and transfer of credits earned through formal and informal learning, enabling
individuals to progress vertically or laterally within the framework.
8. *Industry Partnerships*: Collaboration with industries ensures that NSQF
remains aligned with evolving industry requirements, thereby enhancing the
relevance and effectiveness of skill development programs.
• 9. *Lifelong Learning*: NSQF promotes a culture of lifelong learning by providing
pathways for continuous skill development and career progression, enabling
individuals to adapt to changing market dynamics and technological
advancements.

• 10. *Government Initiatives*: Various government schemes and initiatives, such

as Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY), Skill India Mission, and National
Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme (NAPS), are aligned with NSQF to promote skill
development and employment generation.
• Overall, NSQF serves as a comprehensive framework for standardizing and
enhancing the quality of vocational education and training in India, ultimately
contributing to the country's economic growth and competitiveness.
Information Technology (IT)
• 1. *Information Technology (IT)*:

• - NSQF provides competency-based qualifications for roles such as software developer, network
administrator, and IT support technician.

• - Sector Skill Councils (SSCs) like NASSCOM and Telecom Sector Skill Council (TSSC) define
qualification packs (QPs) and national occupational standards (NOS) for IT-related job roles.

• - Training programs under NSQF cover areas such as programming languages, networking,
cybersecurity, and database management.
Healthcare

• 2. *Healthcare*:

• - NSQF offers qualifications for healthcare professionals including nurses,

medical technicians, and paramedics.

• - SSCs like Healthcare Sector Skill Council (HSSC) develop QPs and NOS for
various healthcare roles.
