An Englishman living near Sheffield recently had a most unlucky day’s
fishing. He was standing on a low bridge when he had the misfortune to
knock his tin of bait into the river. Leaning over the side of the bridge, he
tried to hook the tin and pull it out of the river. As he did so, his car keys fell
out of his pocket and disappeared in the water.
Feeling thoroughly annoyed with himself and his luck, the fisherman lent
over the bridge to try to see where his keys had gone. As he did so, the
bridge collapsed and he fell into the river. This was the last straw. The
fisherman crawled out of the river and went back to his car. There he
discovered that he had locked the doors and could not get in. His anti-thief
lock had immobilized his car. There was nothing left for him to do but walk
sadly home.
THE LION AND THE MOUSE
One day, a lion was sleeping in the forest. A shy Mouse accidentally came
upon the Lion. When she saw the Lion, the Mouse was so scared, she ran
across the Lion’s nose. The Lion woke up suddenly. Angrily, he put his
huge paw on the Mouse. The poor Mouse begged, “Please let me go.
Don’t kill me and some day I will repay your kindness!” The Lion laughed.
How could a Mouse ever help a Lion? But he let the Mouse go. Some days
later, the Lion got caught in a hunter’s net. His angry roars filled the forest.
The Mouse heard the Lion. She ran to the Lion and bit through the net with
her teeth. In this way, the Mouse set the Lion free. “Now you know: even a
tiny Mouse can help a Lion,” she said.
Flight 9525, an Airbus A320, took off at 10:01 a.m. on
March 24 from Barcelona, bound for Dusseldorf. The plane
had 144 passengers and six crew members on board.
According to French aviation accident investigators, the
plane began descending from its cruising altitude of 38,000
feet at 10:31 a.m. It lost contact with French radar at an
altitude of 6,175 feet at10:40 a.m., the investigators said.
Transponder data shows that the autopilot was
reprogrammed by someone inside the cockpit to change
the plane’s altitude from 38,000 feet to 100 feet, according
to Flightradar24, a website that tracks aviation data. The
aircraft crashed in a remote area near Digne-les-Bains in
the Alpes de Haute-Provence region.
The Grasshopper and the Ants
A grasshopper spent the summer singing and dancing in the sun. One day he
saw an ant hurrying by. She looked very tired and hot.
“Why are you working on such a lovely day?” asked the grasshopper.
“I’m collecting food for the winter,” said the ant, and went on her way. She
joined all the other ants carrying food to their store. The grasshopper sang
another song and carried on dancing.
When the winter (1) ______ and there was snow on the ground, the
grasshopper had nothing to eat. He was very hungry so, he went and asked the
ants to give him some food.
“We worked all summer to collect our food. What did you do?” said one of the

Last summer I took a plane to Munich to Rome. From the airport we went to our
hotel by bus. We stopped at a small restaurant for a quick meal. The driver

so we waited outside the restaurant for an hour. The driver was walking through
the small park near the restaurant that we did not know. So we were very angry
with him. But my holidays were great.
