LIBRARY SYSTEM

UNIT 1
CHAPTER 1

INTRODUCTION
This chapter comprised the project context, purpose and description objectives of the study and scope and
limitation of the study.
Project Context
The change from traditional systems of cataloging to that of the modern library system is one of the most
profound changes in the management of information. Libraries are implicit with the academic and public
knowledge domains as storage places of the books, journals and other informative materials. But due to the
advancement in technology, there is need to adopt new systems in the libraries in order to satisfy the increasing
needs of the users on the use of efficient methods in getting information.

Contemporary library systems involve the use of advanced technology software and technology tools to
enhance various activities in the library, enhance the experience of the user and develop means of access to a
number of resources in a digital form. These systems include not only the simple ones like the cataloging and
lending functions but includes other functions like the online databases, e-books, and the automated
management of the various systems.
The studies conducted here will examine the current bibliographic systems that enroll with the
label of modern library systems. The study seeks to establish how these systems support library
services, the level of user satisfaction, and the efficiency of libraries’ management. Therefore,
based on the results of case analysis and users’ responses, the authors aim at revealing examples
of best practices and possible pitfalls in the implementation of brand-new technologies in the
context of libraries.

Appreciating the changes and current status of library systems is important in influencing
the policies that are adopted as society aims at transforming the library systems to face the
emerging challenges in the digital age. Therefore, this research is a valuable addition to the
discussions of library modernization as it shares vital information that can assist in the
enhancement of library services and the advocacy for the availability of knowledge
Purpose and Description

The purpose of this research is to explore and evaluate ways to enhance user accessibility and
engagement within digital library systems. The study aims to identify and analyze the effectiveness of
various interactive features and usability enhancements that can improve the overall user experience
in digital libraries.
This research focuses on assessing the impact of specific interactive features and usability
improvements on user accessibility and engagement in digital library systems. It involves a
comprehensive evaluation of different digital libraries, examining elements such as user interface
design, search functionality, personalized recommendations, and multimedia integration. The study
employs both quantitative and qualitative methods, including user surveys, usability testing, and data
analytics, to gather insights on user preferences and behaviors. The goal is to provide actionable
recommendations for library system developers and administrators to create more user-friendly and
engaging digital library environments.

REVIEW RELATED LITERATURE

This part discusses the review of related literature and the system of the review of the relevant studies
and its use to concede the researcher’s findings.

Foreign Literature
According to Burke (2007) Manual Library Management systems, operating systems are vulnerable to
human error. For instance, a librarian who misfiles a borrower’s records or indexes a book incorrectly slows
down the process and wastes student’s time. Manual systems are also slow to operate. Instead of using a
computer to issue and take back books, locating and updating a card index is slow and laborious. Manual
systems are unable to store large amounts of data efficiently. With manual systems are unable to spend a lot
their time on mechanical, clerical tasks rather than liaising with library visitors

According to A. Agarwal (2013) on the research entitled “Online Library Management System” The
main problem of the different libraries worldwide are they are still using manual method. So the researcher
proposed to make an automated system that will have better log in form and to record quickly the borrowed
and still existing books. So the librarian or the staffs can monitor every time the books that carried outside by
the students. therefore online library management system can be use outdoor or even without the school
library. You can access or borrow books using the internet. It will be very convenient and less time consuming.
According to E. Valenti (2016) from the article entitled “The State Of Library Management Systems” are
systems that helps big in terms of some transactions on the library. On this article the automated library systems
said that it can do multitasking. It can do recording books on library but it can also make different transactions. It
will make the library service convenient like making card cataloging. Therefore multitasking inside the library is
very nice. The system will be the one who records all the transactions inside the library so it decreases the tasks
of the librarian so it can avoid the cases of lost records due to human errors.
Local Literature
According to D. Lourdes (2012), from the article entitled “The DOST-ESEP Libraries: The First Library
Network in The Philippines” the planning of this system are way back year 1995 but it’s difficult to implement in
during those time so it took long time to be able to release it on the public. There are some universities that
quickly get the partnership since it was started in 2012. It means networking is also a major key on collaborating
inside the library. Therefore this type of system is exactly a big help on the state of the Philippine libraries. It can
make our library a world class and can compete on other country’s libraries.
According to Quintin Jose V Pastrana (2013), A Library System is a system which is used to track books,
magazines, newspaper, etc. in a certain library without the hassle of card catalogs. It is usually comprises of a
relational database, software to interact with that database, and two Graphical User Interfaces (One for the
borrower, one for the staff). According to Ask.com, the disadvantage of using a manual library system are there is
an increased chance for human errors, it takes a lot of time to train employees on the nuances of such a system,
speed and accuracy are decreased, more space is required to store the paperwork involved.
According to Q.J.Pastrana (2013), from the study entitled “Library System with web android based
OPAC” technology is a big factor to keep the students keep going to the library. So the author thinks that
android devices can use to attract the students on going to the libraries. In terms of their device they can easily
search or monitor the books inside the library. Whether the books that they want to borrow are on the borrowed
section or it is still available. So on this situation the students will have more fun on this new library system.
Therefore the author use what is the trending device to make students come to the libraries because their task
on searching books inside the library become easier and faster
