Divisibility Rules for 2, 5 and 10

2
1. Divisibility Rule for 2. A number is divisible by 2
if its ones digit is even (that is, 0, 2, 4, 6, 8)

Example 1 Is 246 divisible by 2?

Yes, because the ones digit which is 6, is
divisible by 2. Therefore, 246 is divisible
by 2.

5
2. Divisibility Rule for 5. A number is divisible by 5
if its ones digit is 0 or 5.

Example 1 Is 255 divisible by 5?

Yes, because the ones digit of the number
is 5. Therefore, 255 is divisible by 5.
10
3. Divisibility Rule for 10. A number is divisible by
10 if its ones digit is 0.

Example 1 Is 720 divisible by 10?

○Yes, because the ones digit of the
number is 0. Therefore, 720 is divisible
by 10.

Divisibility Rules for 3, 6 and 9

3 Divisibility Rule for 3. A number is divisible by 3 if the sum of all

the digits is divisible by 3.
Example 1 Is 8 013 divisible by 3?
Solution:
8 + 0 + 1 + 3 = 12
12 ÷ 3 = 4
(add all the digits)
(divide the sum by 3)
Therefore, 8 013 divisible by 3 because the sum of all
the digits, which is 12, is divisible by 3.
6
Divisibility Rule for 6. A number is divisible by 6 if it is divisible by
2 and 3.
Example 1 Is 9 402 divisible by 6?
Solution:
9 402 (the ones digit is even)
9 + 4 + 0 + 2 = 15 (add all the digits)
15 ÷ 3 = 5 (divide the sum by 3)
Therefore, 9 402 is divisible by 6 because it is even and
the sum of its digits is divisible by 3.
9
Divisibility Rule for 9. A number is divisible by 9 if the sum of
all the digits is divisible by 9.
Example 1 Is 8 613 divisible by 9?
Solution:
8 + 6 + 1 + 3 = 18 (add all the digits)
18 ÷ 9 = 2 (divide the sum by 3)
Therefore, 8 613 is divisible by 9 because the sum of
all the digits, which is 18, is divisible by 9.
