Weather

&
Climate

What is weather &
climate?
Weather Climate
- Weather is the temporary - Climate is the
condition of the atmosphere overall average
at a place. weather at a
place
over a period
of
time.
Polar Climate
- Occurs near the poles at
the higher latitudes
-Winters are long and
bitterly cold
-Summers are short and
cool
-Temperatures are below
freezing for more than
half the year
Temperate
Climate
-The temperate zone is the
area of the earth that lies
between the middle
latitudes, which is 40
degrees to 60 degrees to the
north-south of the Equator.
The temperate zones are
located in the regions of the
Earth between the tropic
regions and the polar
regions. The climate that
occurs in this region is
called the temperate climate.
Arid Climate
-A region is described as arid
when it experiences a severe
lack of water to the extent of
preventing and hindering the
growth and development of
animal and plant life. Arid
environments are diverse in
terms of soil, climate, water
balance, flora, fauna, and
human activities, and therefore
there is no working definition
to define an arid region other
than aridity.
Tropical Climate
- When we refer to this
climate, tropical meaning it is
basically a non-arid climate.
The term tropical meaning it
is a very specific word which
has an average temperature.
The wet season might run
away from the high-sun half
of the year in the case of
Aw/As climates. It runs from
the month of April to the
month of September in the
northern hemisphere. And in
the southern hemisphere from
the month of October to the
month of March.
Mediterranean
Climate
- Mediterranean climate is
a very pleasant climate with
warm, dry summers and
cool, mild winters. It gets
its name from the
Mediterranean Sea. Most of
the coastal land around the
Mediterranean Sea
experience this climate.
This climate’s most
important because it is the
large bodies of water near
the land and Mediterranean
climate is only found along
the coast.
Tundra Climate
- Tundra ecosystems are treeless
regions found in the Arctic and on the
tops of mountains, where the climate
is cold and windy, and rainfall is
scant. Tundra lands are covered with
snow for much of the year, but
summer brings bursts of wildflowers.
Plants and Animals in Tundra’s
- Mountain goats, sheep, marmots,
and birds live in mountain-or alpine-
tundra and feed on the low-lying
plants and insects. Hardy flora like
cushion plants survive in the
mountain zones by growing in rock
depressions, where it is warmer, and
they are sheltered from the wind.
Glacial Period

- A glacial period (alternatively glacial

or glaciation) is an interval of time
(thousands of year) within an ice age
that is marked by colder temperature
and glacier advances. Interglacial
periods, on the other hand, are periods
of warmer climate between glacial
periods. The last glacial period ended
about 15,000 years ago
Interglacial Period
- An interglacial period (or
alternatively interglacial,
interglaciation) is a geological interval
of warmer global average temperature
lasting thousands of years that separates
consecutive glacial periods within an
ice age. The current Holocene
interglacial period began at the end of
the Pleistocene glacial period, about
11,700 years ago.
Climate Change
- Climate change means
the change in the world
climate. Climate change is
causing different kinds of
irregular behavior in the
world climate, including
frequent natural
calamities. Climate change
is the most discussed issue
at the moment all over the
world.
Melting of
Glaciers
- Human activities are at the
root of this phenomenon.
Specifically, since the industrial
revolution, carbon dioxide and
other greenhouse gas emissions
have raised temperatures, even
higher in the poles, and as a
result, glaciers are rapidly
melting, which is causing the sea
level to rise. This could be a
problem because it could flood
islands and destroy homes of
animals living on the shorelines
of beaches.
