Introduction

Increasing salinity is a crucial issue to the

people of the coastal region of Bangladesh.
Salinity is considered as one of the most
serious threats to the environment.
 It is a serious threat to the crop production in
the southern region of Bangladesh.
Introduction cont’d
 Research on determination of soil salinity status in coastal area of Patuakhali
and Barguna district is limited till date.

 Soil salinity received very little attention in the past. There is no continuous
monitoring about soil in study area.
 The present piece of study was undertaken to provide better understanding of
seasonal variability of soil salinity during dry period in south coast of
Bangladesh.

 Recent attention has been paid to the impact of seasonal variability of soil
salinity on crop production.
Objectives

 To assess the better understanding of seasonal variability of soil

salinity in the study area.

 To observe the different chemical properties of soil of the study area.

Conclusion and Recommendation
 Polder had remarkable effect on maximum soil properties studies in all
points of all locations.
 Polder was found very effective to reduce salinity problem in coastal
region. Salinity starts to rise up after monsoon and reached maximum in
dry period.

 Soil salinity of the study area showed slightly to moderately saline.

 Fertility status of most saline soils of study area ranges from low to very
low in respect to organic matter and nutrient content.

 Combating land salinization problem is vital for food security in the

country through the adoption of long term land management strategy.
