Scientific Method

The document discusses the scientific method which is a series of processes used to gather knowledge about the world through observation and experimentation. It describes the key steps of the scientific method as asking a question, researching, making a hypothesis, conducting an experiment, collecting data, analyzing the data, and comparing the results to the hypothesis. The document also explains that the scientific method is important for ensuring accurate and safe conclusions and that Isaac Newton refined the scientific method into the process used today.

WHAT IS SCIENTIFIC
METHOD ?
• The scientific method is a series of
processes that people can use to gather
knowledge about the world around
them, improve that knowledge
STEPS OF THE SCIENTIFIC
METHOD
• STEP 1 . ASK A QUESTION OR YOU CAN OBSERVE THE QUESTION THAT
HAS TO BE ANSWERED
• STEP 2 . RESEARCH MORE ABOUT THAT QUESTION
• STEP 3 . YOU CAN PREDICT SOMETHING AND YOU MIGHT FIND THE
ANSWER TO THE QUESTION . HYPOTHESIS MEAN YOU PREDICT
SOMETHING.
• STEP 4 . YOU MAKE AN EXPERIMENT AND TEST THE HYPOTHESIS
• STEP 5 . YOU CAN COLLECT THE RESULTS OF THE EXPERIMENT .
• THIS STEP IS CALLED COLLECT DATA.
• STEP 6 .EXAMINE THE DATA . THIS STEP IS CALLED ANALYSIS .
• STEP 7 . COMPARE THE HYPOTHESIS TO THE EXPERIMENT RESULTS.
WHY IS THE SCIENTIFIC METHOD
IMPORTANT?

• Because scientists are human and humans make

mistakes. The scientific method helps scientists
come to accurate and safe conclusions. Imagine
taking a medicine that was made by a scientist
who merely thought the medicine would be a
good idea without conducting any research. Yikes!
The scientific method helps ensure safer products.
WHO INVENTED SCIENTIFIC
METHOD ?
• Any discussion about who invented the scientific method
must include Isaac Newton, as the scientist who refined
the process into one that we use today.
• He was the first to realise that scientific discovery needed
both induction and deduction, a revolution in the
scientific method that took science into the modern age.
