WHAT IS FRACKING?

The term is Hydraulic Fracturing otherwise The process is by injecting liquid and

HISTORY OF FRACKING

This process has dated back to 1862 and is credited to Colonel Edward A. L.
Roberts. During the Civil War’s Battle of Fredericksburg, Roberts noted how the

then oil flow increased. This was the early process of fracking.

producing more than seven billion barrels of oil and 600 trillion cubic feet of
natural gas.

from itself rather than overseas.
ENVIRONMENTAL ISSUES

PROS
There are many pros for the continuation of fracking. It helps keep us away from
coal and allows us to use natural gases which is healthy for the environment than
burning coal.
It creates many jobs for Americans this industry has created 64,000 jobs alone in
2014 and more in later years.
It is a cheaper fuel alternative; it lowers the prices of other natural materials.

CONS
While there are many pros to fracking there are also cons. It can waste a lot of
freshwater, in 2018 on average more than 5 million gallons of freshwater was
used to fracture just one well, thus wasting a very useful resource for another one.
While drilling and using the pressure of water in can lead to earthquakes, the
wastewater can lead to back up in the wells causing dangerous earthquakes.
Fracking can lead to possible pollutions to the air. The fracking of 400 wells
could increase the air pollution, and increase nitrogen dioxides rising by 1% and
4%, and volatile organic compounds by 1% and 3%.
