DATA COLLECTION ARE THE FACTS OF
INFORMATION
• CONDUCTING SURVEY

• ORBSERVING THE OUTCOMES OF THE EVENT

• TAKING MEASUREMENTS IN EXPERIMENT

• READING STATISTICAL PUBLICATION

CONDUCTING SURVEYS
• THE INTERVIEW METHOD AND THE QUESTIONAIR METHOD CAN BE
USE IN CONDUCTING SURVEY.

• Example :
The teacher made a form and ask the
Students to fill out the previous grades
And return the form to him/her.
ORBSERVING THE OUTCOMES OF THE
EVENT

• Example :

Rhea wanted to find whether the dies was fair or biased. She tossed
the dies forty times and she record the result.
TAKING MEASUREMENTS IN
EXPERIMENT
• Examples
The physicist and chemist conducted an experiment on how can we
saw dust be substituted for sand in the production of hollow blocks
READING STATISTICAL PUBLICATION
• Example

Mr. Revera check the date of birth of each students

in the class registry.
Methods used in Collecting Data
1. Questioniar Method
On this method data is gathered through a set of questions that is mailed or handed to the
respondents who are expected to read and understand them.
2. Interview Method
This method of collecting data is oral or verbal communication where the interviewer ask
question in any mode to an interviewer.
3. Observation Method
The data on this method are gathered either individually or collectively b means of observation.
4. Experiment Method
This method is used when the objectives is to determine the cause and effect relation ship of a
certain phenomenon under controlled condition.
EXAMPLE
Below are the results of a survey about the favorite colors of 15 students in a
freshmen class.. What calor is the most favorite of the students and the least
favorite color?
green red yellow
white red
SOLUTION green

1. Write the colors in the yellow black
first column
2. Make a tally

An airline asked their passenger on a flight to rate the quality of their service. The
table below shows the ratings of 24 passengers . How many passengers gave a
rating of 3 and below?
Service Ratings
3 5 4 2 4 3
4 2 1 4 3 5
5 1 2 5 3 1
4 3 5 2 5 2
5: Excellent 4: Very Good 3: GOOD 2: Fair 1: Poor

Solution:
1. Write the service Ratings in order .
2. Make a Tally
3. Count the tallies then write the Frequencies
4. Total all the frequencies

TOTAL 24

The rates of 3 and below consist good(3),fair (2), and Poor(1) . Their
frequencies are 5, 5, and 3, respectively. Adding these 3
frequencies will result to 13, the number of passengers who gave a
rating of 3 and below.
Steps in constructing a frequency table for a given un grouped data
to be transformed as a grouped data.

1. Determine the range.

R= H-L
2. Determine the desired number of the class interval or categories.

3. Class width = in symbols W=

4. Write the class intervals starting with the lowest lower value as
determined in the data.
5. Tally the correspondng number of scores in each interval.
Example :
the following are the test scores of the students.
Construct a suitable frequency table. Use 6 as the desired number of class interval.
14 15 30 19 10 18
26 30 10 15 15 28
15 30 34 40 20 40
20 30 10 22 36 36
22 18 14 26 17 37
21 19 11 16 29
