Zero conditional: If-Clauses
In English, there are several types of conditionals, including the zero
conditional. This type of conditional is used in situations where, if a
condition is met, the same result always occurs.
 The structure of the zero conditional:
Conditionals are sentences composed of two clauses. The zero conditional
has the following structure:

If + subject + present simple, subject + present simple

How is the zero conditional used?
 The zero conditional is used to express facts that are always true, such as
scientific facts, scientific laws, general truths, etc.
Example:
You get orange if you mix red and yellow.

Obtienes naranja si mezclas rojo y amarillo.

 In addition to true facts, the zero conditional can also be used to give
instructions. In this case, we will use an to express the instruction or warning.
imperative
Example:
If you feel sick, go to the doctor.

Si te encuentras mal, ve al médico.

 Only in this conditional can we replace 'if' with 'when' without altering the
meaning of the sentence.
Example:

If you heat ice, it melts. When you heat ice, it melts.

Si calientas hielo, se derrite. Cuando calientas hielo, se derrite.
First conditional
The first conditional necessarily has two clauses: the condition and the result. One of them
should be written in the present simple tense, and the other in the future simple tense. Just
like the zero conditional, the clauses can be used in interchangeable order.

 Conditional clause
The conditional clause has the following structure:
If + subject + present simple
 Result clause
The second clause is the result clause and is formed with:
Subject + will + infinitive verb
Affirmative First Conditional
■ The English first conditional in the affirmative must include a clause in the present
simple and another clause in the future simple. Structure:
If + Subject + present simple, Subject + Will + infinitive verb

Examples:
If my family buys the land, we will build a house.
(Si mi familia compra el terreno, construiremos una casa.)

We will build a house if my family buys the land.

(Construiremos una casa si mi familia compra el terreno.)
First Conditional in the negative form in
English.
■ The first conditional can also be used in the negative form. In this case, it is necessary
to include the negative form 'doesn't' or 'don't' in the clause that contains 'if'. Structure:
If + Subject + do/does not + present simple, Subject + will + not + infinitive verb
Examples:
If you don’t drive carefully, you will have an accident.
(Si no conduces con cuidado, tendrás un accidente.)

You will have an accident if you don’t drive carefully.

(Tendrás un accidente si no conduces con cuidado.)
First Conditional in the interrogative form.
■ The first conditional in the interrogative form is very simple. All you need to do is invert
the order of the clauses. That is, the first clause will be in the future, and the second will
be the condition.
Will + Subject + infinitive verb + If + Subject + present simple verb + ?
Examples:
Will you buy me an ice cream if I clean my room?
(¿Me comprarás un helado si limpio mi habitación?)

Will he pick you up if it is too late?

(¿Te recogerá si es demasiado tarde?)
