the daily allotment of time among the several subjects, activities and
classes.

motion its various activities and programmes”.

Need and Importance of Timetable
1.Smooth and systematic school work:
• The school time -table is pre- arranged scheme of work ,the
teachers and students know what is to be done, when and where .
• This ensures smooth and systematic working of the school.
2.Due attention to different subjects and activities:
• Time -table provides due attention to different subjects,
activities and programmes.
• There is no over -emphasis or under emphasis l on any item or
subject.
3. No wastage of time and energy:
• Planned work is helpful in preventing the wastage of time and energy .
• The students and teachers attend to specified tasks at the right time and in
the right manner.
4. Maintenance of discipline:
• School time -table is so formed that students are kept fruitfully busy and
they get no time of indiscipline.
• Students efforts are properly directed. This helps in maintaining discipline.
5. Punctuality and regularity:
• Students and teachers have to work systematically and
regularly according to the time- table.
• It develops methodical habit of work among the students
and teachers.
• Regularity in all types of school work is ensured.
Types of Time-Table
Principle of variety:
• The best time -table is one in which students get time to change their seats and
keep their body in the comfortable position.
• So it is essential that they do not sit at one place continuously for a longer
duration ,as they study a particular subject.
• It should be born in mind that the difficult and easy subjects are taught
alternatively.
• If a subject is to be taught for 2 or 3 periods in the week, these periods should not
be fixed continuously towards the week end.
Principle of flexibility:
• The time -table should be flexible enough that temporary changes could be affected by the
head of the institutions as and when it becomes absolutely necessary.
Principle of play and a creation:
• The students should not be kept busy in studies all day long .After serious work, there
should be periods of play and recreation .
• Such periods are considered very important as the students receive real education through
play and recreation
• So co -curricular activities should also be included in the construction of regular time- table.
Type of school:
• Time -table is an important means of organising school work efficiently.
• For example, the time -table of a public school will be different from that of an
ordinary secondary school.
• Time -table of a single shift school will be different from the one in a double shift
school .
Availability of time:
• While framing the time –table, total working time available should be kept in mind
• Time for academic subjects activities and other programmes have to be kept in mind
• Some subjects like English and Mathematics require more time than other subjects.
Conclusion
Time- tables are an integral part of academic
life ,teaching discipline, time management and task
completion .Implementing a robust school
management system can simplify the process, enhance
coordination, and benefit both students and teachers.
