Outline of thesis

INTRODUCTION
• Myanmar is agricultural country.
• The problem of agriculturist is the water that supplies such as wells and
rivers can often be used for agricultural fields.
• Water pumping is one of the most basic and widespread energy needs in
rural area of the world.
• water pumping watermills where used to pump water for livestock and
settlers.
• Crops were irrigated by using the watermill to pump water into a reserve
area to flow out to the crops.
• A waterwheel powered pump is watermill used for pumping water, either as
a source of fresh water from wells
Working Principle
• A waterwheel is a simple turbine—a device with buckets, paddles or blades
that is rotated by moving water.
• It converts the kinetic energy of water into mechanical energy.
• A water wheel is a machine for converting the energy of flowing or falling
water into useful forms of power.
• . Waterwheel, mechanical device for tapping the energy of running or falling
water by means of a set of paddles mounted around a wheel.
• The force of the moving water is exerted against the paddles, and the
consequent rotation of the wheel is transmitted to machinery via the shaft of
the wheel.
• The shaft power drives to the pump.

Water wheel

• A waterwheel is a type of device

that takes advantage of flowing or
falling water to generate power.
• It is using a set of paddles
mounted around a wheel.
• The falling force of the water
pushes the paddles, rotating a
wheel. This rotation of a wheel
can be transmitted to a variety of
machines through a shaft at the Figure 2 Water wheel
center of the wheel.
. Reciprocating pump
• A reciprocating pump is a class of
positive-displacement pumps that
includes the piston pump, plunger
pump, and diaphragm pump.
• It is often used where a relatively
small quantity of liquid is to be
handled and where delivery
pressure is quite large.
Figure 3 Reciprocating Pump
• In reciprocating pumps, the
chamber that traps the liquid is a
stationary cylinder that contains a
piston or plunger.
Spiral Pump
• A spiral pump is a low lift pump.
• It is composed of a long piece of
metal plating, which is wound
into a coil and sealed at the top
and back extremities so as to
resemble a cylinder.
• The outer cavity serves as the
inlet, while the inner (partial)
tube serves as the outlet.
• Air vessel is closed chamber
containing compressed air in the top
portion and liquid at the bottom of
the chamber.
• As the base of the chamber there is
and opening through which the liquid
may flow into the vessel or out of the
vessel.
• When the liquid enters the air vessel,
the air gets compressed further and
when the liquid flows out the vessel,
the air will expand in the chamber
• A shaft is the component of a
mechanical device that transmits
rotational motion and power.
• Bearing is a machine element
that constrains relative motion to
only the desired motion and
reduces friction between moving
parts.
• Most bearings facilitate the
desired motion by minimizing
friction.
• A belt is a loop of flexible material
used to link two or more rotating
shafts mechanically.
• Belts may be used as a source of
motion, to transmit power
efficiently or to track relative
movement
• A pulley is a wheel on an axle or
shaft enabling a taut cable or belt
passing over the wheel to move
and change direction.
• The water frame is a spinning
frame that is powered by a
water-wheel.
• Frame is rigid structure.
• It maintains it’s shape with or
without external loads.
• A pipe can be defined as a tube
made of metal, plastic, wood,
concrete or fiberglass.
• Pipe is a tubular section or hollow
cylinder, usually but not necessarily
of circular cross-section.
• It is used mainly to convey
substances which can flow —
liquids and gases (fluids), slurries,
powders and masses of small
solids.
