The pickaxe is your most important tool. Building a wooden pickaxe

mining more precious ores

Mining Basics- Types of mining
Cave Mining (Spelunking)

Simple concept - find a preexisting cave and mine the visible ore. A guaranteed way of finding
large amounts of ore. High return on investment as you need less tools since most of the area
is pre-carved out.

However, caves are highly dangerous. A favored spot for hostile mobs, make sure you bring a
large amount of torches to keep the area well lit. You also need to pay special attention to
navigation as well - missing an unlit pathway can invite monsters to come up from behind you
or you could fall through a hole in the floor, as well as it is very easy to get lost in a cave
system. Cave systems also frequently have lava that is very dangerous.

Pro tip - if reaching dead ends, try mining in the area, frequently they connect to more
passageways that are being thinly blocked by a layer or two of blocks.
Mining Basics- Types of mining
Finding Mineshafts

Mineshaft structures are often found intersecting cave systems. They are premade mines that often
have tracks, wooden supports and minecarts. Mineshafts should be treated much the same as caves,
they often have hostile mobs and may contain cave spiders and a cave spider mob spawner (break
these if possible - very hard). However, mineshafts can arguably be more dangerous than caves as
preplaced torches and items can make it confusing to know where you have already explored.

Despite these dangers there is still a very high risk reward ratio as mineshafts have more resources
than most caves including string from breaking cobwebs, wood from support beams, various pieces
from breaking equipment, chests to loot and any ore you may find.

Protip - if you find yourself getting confused or turned around try breaking everything and leaving
the tunnel bare except torches to know if you’ve already been through that area. If that’s not your
style try leaving signs or something else that is out of place.
Mining Basics- Types of mining
Strip Mining

Arguably the hardest and most time consuming but safest route to mining, creating your own shaft
is an option. Finding a mountain side and digging into it and then down allows a player complete
control over what their mining area looks like. This method isn’t really suggested as you will be
going through a lot of tools removing gravel and stone mostly and there’s no real guarantee when a
player will find the ores they are looking for. It is technically the safest mining method however,
hostile mobs will not spawn in well lit areas so as long as you are putting torches up as you mine
there is almost no chance of being crept up on while in your own mineshaft.

Mining this way may lead to your shaft leading into a cave system that you may have been unable
to reach from a direct surface point however and does allow for further exploration of the map.
Players still need to be careful of opening up walls that may lead to lava, water, or possible hostile
mobs as well as drops from holes in the floor while mining downwards.
Farming Plants need everything IRL plants do, soil, water, and light.
● To get soil hit a dirt block with your hoe. Leaving soil for long
Ways to get seeds: periods of time without planting something will make it turn back

potatoes from killing ● Having an outdoor farm allows for maximum light but if worried
Zombies about the crops you can do an indoor farm using torches as a light
source
● Crops should take between 10 and 30 min to grow without
fertilization. If it is taking longer than that check your light and
water sources
● Bone meal can act as a fertilizer if you want your crops to grow
faster *can find by killing skeletons*
● Having mobs or players step/run on your crops will break them so
best to keep them protected somehow

They are the only mob that can repopulate without breeding.
