Operating System and Windows 10

Operating System is one of the most important software. It is a


program with a set of instructions that a computer will follow to do a
specific task easily.

Windows 10 is the latest version of the Windows Operating System


released last July 29, 2015, by the Microsoft Company. It has a lot of
new and interesting features that the user will really enjoy.

Windows 10 is an Operating System software that will help you open


and use many programs at the same time. You can open a program by
simply double-clicking the icons. Icons are small pictures that
represent programs.
How To Start Windows 10 OS
 Turn on your computer by pressing the power button. Windows 10
will automatically start.

 The first thing you will see on the screen is the LOCK SCREEN. It
has a background image that fills the entire screen. It shows the
date and time, the network status, and the battery life icon.

 The network status icon shows if you are connected to the


Internet. The battery life icon will only be visible if you are using
a laptop or tablet.
How To Start Windows 10 OS
 After pressing
the space bar,
you will see the
LOG-IN SCREEN.
The log-in screen
will ask you to
sign-in by
choosing an
account. It may
require you to
enter a
password.

PARTS OF THE DESKTOP
 DESKTOP - It is the overall working area in Windows.

 DESKTOP ICONS – These are small graphical pictures or


folders which allow you to open files, folders, or programs.

 WALLPAPER – It is the background image on the desktop.

 TASKBAR – It is a long rectangular bar found at the bottom of


the desktop. It contains the Start button, the Search
Windows icon, the Task View icon, and other program icons.
Parts of the Desktop

 Task View Icon – Clicking this icon will show you thumbnails (small
pictures) of all the application programs that are currently open.

 Search Windows Icon – It is used to type and search for apps, files,
and settings.

 The Notification Area – It is located at the bottom right side of the


taskbar. It contains the following:

 Network status
 Other hidden icons
Start Menu

Clicking the Start button in


the taskbar will show you the
Start Menu.
The Start menu makes it easy for
you to access apps.
