Sequence ckts of Y and Δ impedances,

Sequence ckts of a Symmetrical Transmission Line
Sequence circuits of Y and Δ impedences
If neutral is present then

In = I a + I b + I c

Expressing in terms of symmetrical

Components

In= zero + Positive + Negative

In= 3 Ia0
The voltage of phase a
Va= Van + Vn

Here Vn = 3 Ia0 Zn
Multiplying across by the inverse matrix A-1
Va0/ Ia0 = Zo = ZY + 3 Zn

The zero Sequence impedance Z0

The positive sequence impedance Z1

The negative sequence impedence Z2

Voltages in the positive-sequence and negative sequence circuits can be
regarded as voltages measured with respect to either neutral or ground whether or
not there is a connection of some finite value of impedance Zn between neutral
and ground.

Accordingly, in the positive-sequence circuit there is no difference between V a1

and Van1 and a similar statement applies to Va2 and Van2 in the negative sequence
circuit. However, a voltage difference can exist between the neutral and the
reference of the zero-sequence circuit.
For Delta connected system

Since the sum of line to line voltages is always zero

In Δ connected ckts with impedances only and no sources or mutual coupling there cannot
be any circulating currents
Ungrounded Y- connected Δ - Connected circuits and their zero -
sequence circuits
Example

Three equal impedances of j21 Ω are connected in Δ.

Determine the sequence impedances and circuits of the
combination.
Solution
The line to line voltages are related to the Δ currents by

Transforming to symmetrical components of voltages and currents

Pre Multiplying each side by A-1 we get,

Per phase impedances Z1 = Z2 = j 7 Ω
