MEASURING

MARKING TOOL USED IN

AND
PATTERN DRAFTING
LESSON OBJECTIVES
At the end of the lesson the students will be able to:
a. Identify each measuring and marking tools used in
drafting a pattern.
b. Describe each measuring and marking tools used
in drafting a pattern.
c. Apply each measuring and marking tools in
drafting a simple pattern
LET US PRAY:
REVIEW OF THE PREVIOUS LESSON

• Horizontal Measurements
• Vertical Measurements
• Circumferential measurement
Unlocking difficulties:
·Marking tool- used to mark on a job or workpiece
to obtain accurate size and shape.
·Measuring tool- anything used to take a count of
quantitative data, such as weight, length, time or
temperature.
Unlocking difficulties:
·Gauge means to estimate or measure, while the
gauge is a tool you can use to make such a
measurement.
·Perpendicular line - a straight line that makes the
right angle (90 degrees) with the other line.
Unlocking difficulties:
·Fabric-cloth or material for making clothes,
covering furniture, etc.
·Intersecting line- two or more lines cross each
other in a plane.
Dart- a technique used for shaping garments by
curving straight fabric to the body.
PROCESSING QUESTIONS:
1.What are the tools that have
been projected?
2. What is the importance of
familiarization of measuring
and marking tools?

Tracing wheel - It is a small plain or toothed wheel
attached to a handle and used on tracing paper to trace a
clothing pattern

It is available in a serrated or smooth edge. The serrated

edge is used to make a dotted link marking in most
fabrics. The smooth edge makes a solid line marking and
is used for delicate fabrics such as silk and chiffon.

TAILOR’S CHALK

A
It can be used to mark directly onto the fabric. It
does not need sharpening like a chalk pencil.

B These are used to mark tucks, darts, pleats and

pockets. One type disappears after about 48 hours.

onto the fabric. It does not need sharpening
like a chalk pencil. Great for dark, heavy
fabrics where a traditional water soluble
marking pen may not appear
