Design process

1 ) PROJECT TYPE, TITLE AND DEFINITION

– Project category, Project title , Definition of terms,
problem definition, methodology, etc
2 ) INFORMATION GATHERING
Case study: local and international budget frame, design
standards program analysis
Collecting and reading materials:- like standards,
functions…
3 ) SITE SELECTION AND ANALYSIS
– Site boundary and area , topographic analysis,
orientation, set back, building height regulation
.
SITE SELECTION IS MAINLY BASED ON TWO
FACTORS:

• Factors concerning “the before construction

of the project”
• Factors concerning “the after construction of
the structure” (after use efficiency)
Factors concerning “the before construction of the project”

• Availability of skilled labor

• Availability of cheap labor
• wind, velocity and direction
• contour of the land in relation to the building costs
• cost of land
• Transportation facilities
• Availability of local or natural materials to reduce
construction and transportation costs
• Rate of population growth and urbanization in that area
• Town planning and environmental conditions
Factors concerning “the after construction of the
structure” (after use efficiency)

• Access to Parks and Playgrounds

• Availability of Public Utility Services especially
water, electricity and sewage disposal
• distance from places of work
• ease of drainage
• location with respect to schools, colleges and
public buildings
• nature of use of adjacent areas
• transport facilities
4) Room Programming
collecting client requirement, identify functional space
and their relationships

• Listing of Requirement

• Listing of Activity and Function

• Calculation of space demand

• Reading/reference/ literature /examples

• Grouping/relationship/sequencing
