OBJECTIVES:

1. Discuss what really is climate change,

2. The impacts of climate change to our
environment,
3. Identify its causes and effects; and

WHAT IS CLIMATE CHANGE?
• Climate Change is the long-term changes
in temperature and weather pattern.
These changes may be caused by
significant volcanic eruptions or variations
in the sun's activity.

• However, human activity has been the

primary cause of climate change since the
1800s, mostly as a result of the burning
of fossil fuels like coal, oil, and gas.
Fossil fuel combustion releases
greenhouse gasses into the
atmosphere, which encircle the planet
like a blanket and trap solar heat, causing
temperatures to rise. Methane and

CAUSES OF CLIMATE CHANGE
o GENERATING POWER
Fossil fuels like coal, oil, and gas are the
primary contributors to climate change.
Most people still use electricity
generated by burning coal, oil, or gas,
which produces greenhouse gases that

USING TRANSPORTATION
the sun’s heat.
Most vehicles function with the use of
fossil fuels. That makes transportation a
significant contributor of greenhouse
gases. Road vehicles account for the
most crucial part, especially with the
number of vehicles we see on the
streets, given that almost all use
CAUSES OF CLIMATE CHANGE
o DEFORESTATION
When cutting down trees, these trees
release the carbon they have been
storing. Since forests absorb carbon
dioxide, destroying them limits nature’s
ability to keep emissions out of the
oatmosphere.
CONSUMING TOO MUCH
The use of power in our homes, what
we do, what we eat, and the things we
throw away all contribute to the
emission of greenhouse gases. This
shows how significant the effect of
humans is on the environment; our
lifestyles have a substantial impact on
EFFECTS OF CLIMATE CHANGE

 HOTTER
TEMPERATURES
Since the 1980’s, each decade
has been warmer than the
previous one. Nearly all land
areas are seeing more hot days
and heat waves. Due to hotter
temperatures, heat-related
illnesses increase and make
working outdoors more difficult.
EFFECTS OF CLIMATE CHANGE

 FOOD SHORTAGE

Changes in the climate and

increases in extreme weather
events are among the reasons
behind a global rise in hunger
and poor nutrition. Fisheries,
crops, and livestock may be
destroyed or become less
productive. With the ocean
becoming more acidic, marine
EFFECTS OF CLIMATE CHANGE

 MORE HEALTH RISK

Climate change impacts are

already harming health,
through air pollution, disease,
extreme weather events, forced
displacement, pressures on
mental health, and increased
hunger and poor nutrition in
places where people cannot
grow or find sufficient food.
EFFECTS OF CLIMATE CHANGE
 STORMS

Also, destructive storms have

become more intense and more
frequent in many regions.
 INCREASED DROUGHT

Global warming exacerbates

water shortages in already
water-stressed regions and is
leading to an increased risk of
agricultural droughts affecting
EFFECTS OF CLIMATE CHANGE
 RISING SEA LEVEL

Melting ice sheets also cause

sea levels to rise, threatening
coastal and island communities.
 LOSS OF SPECIES

One million species are at risk of

becoming extinct within the next
few decades. Some species will
be able to relocate and survive,
but others will not.
EFFECTS OF CLIMATE CHANGE

 POVERTY AND
DISPLACEMENT
Climate change increases the
factors that put and keep
people in poverty. Floods may
sweep away urban slums,
destroying homes and
livelihoods. Heat can make it
difficult to work in outdoor jobs.
Water scarcity may affect crops.

 REDUCE ENERGY
CONSUMPTION
Making use of energy-efficient
appliances and LED lighting aids in
reducing electricity consumption
and saving money. Controlling the
temperature in your home is made
possible with the use of smart
thermostats, and reducing the
need for heating and cooling can
be achieved through proper

 USAGE OF NATURAL OR
ORGANIC FERTILIZERS

Organic fertilizers help the

environment by adding natural
material to the soil, taking in
carbon dioxide, and reducing the
use of energy-heavy artificial
fertilizers and pesticides. These
earth-friendly fertilizers help the
environment by emitting less
nitrous oxide compared to other

 REFRAIN FROM USING
PUBLIC TRANSPORT

Choosing to walk, bike, or use

public transportation instead of
driving can cut down on pollution
caused by cars. By making these
choices, we can both benefit the
environment and enhance our
health through regular physical
activity. Selecting trains or buses
for long-distance travel reduces

 REFORESTATION AND
AFORESTATION

Planting trees and restoring forests

play a crucial role in absorbing
carbon dioxide, which is essential
in the effort to combat climate
change. Preparing natural areas in

cope with the impacts of climate
change. This also aids in creating

 PROMOTING EDUCATION
AND AWARENESS
Educating people about climate
change and raising awareness can
lead to a shift in their behavior
towards the
environment. Advocating for the
use of smart choices can aid
people, governments, and
businesses in implementing eco-
conscious measures. Adding

CLIMATE CHANGE CONCLUSION

Climate change, driven by human activities like the

burning of fossil fuels, poses severe and far-reaching
consequences on our environment and well-being.
The negative impacts, evident in various forms such
as extreme weather events and loss of biodiversity,
are particularly pronounced in vulnerable regions like
the Philippines. Urgent global efforts, including
transitioning to renewable energy and sustainable
