INTERVIEW
2. With your groupmates, interview at
least five teachers (one from each level –
preschool, elementary, high school,
college, or graduate). Ask them to
explain their ideas on learner-centered
teaching and how important this is for
the learners. Let them cite examples of
strategies or activities they employ in
their teachings that could be considered
as inclusive and learner centered.
Ideas on learner-
centered teaching
and how important
this is for the
learners?
Preschool teacher
- Learner-centered teaching creates a
collaborative environment that students
are eager to participate in. Students are
encouraged to think critically about what
they're learning and consider how they
want to learn and demonstrate
knowledge. This can involve small
groups where students can learn and
share knowledge.
- It is important because it encourages
students to reflect on what they are
learning and how they are learning it. It
is teaching that encourages
collaboration, acknowledging the
classroom (be it virtual or real) as a
community where everyone shares the
learning agenda.
Elementary teacher
- Learner-centered teaching focuses on
students' passions and interests, and
also highlights their strengths. This
instructional method moves students
away from passive learning and toward
active learning.
- Active learning entails students talking
about learning, sharing strategies, and
helping each other problem solve and
learn concepts.
High school teacher
- As a Grade 7 and 9 English teacher
focusing on literacy, grammar skills, and
the competencies students need to
master, I believe learner-centered
teaching is crucial to student success. It
recognizes the diverse backgrounds,
learning styles, and needs of each
student, allowing for personalized and
meaningful learning experiences.
- One of the most important aspects of
learner-centered teaching is its ability
to engage students actively. When
students feel involved in the learning
process, they are more motivated,
which enhances retention and
application of knowledge.
Collage teacher
- Learner-centered teaching focuses on
the needs, abilities, and interests of
diverse students, positioning them at
the core of the learning process. This
approach emphasizes active
participation, collaboration, and
critical thinking, empowering
learners to take ownership of their
education.
- It's important because it fosters a
sense of autonomy and motivation,
catering to diverse learning styles
and needs, making education more
inclusive and effective.
Graduate students
- learner-centered teaching is grounded
in the belief that students learn best when
they are actively involved in their
education. This involvement comes from
recognizing and catering to their
individual needs, interests, and learning
styles. It acknowledges that each student
is unique, and thus, requires a different
approach to achieve their fullest
As a graduate, I am a visual learner who
recognizes the great effect of learner
centered teaching. When I was in my
field study and practice teaching era,
differentiation strategies, sasayaw,
kakanta, magdadrawing, dadrama, at iba,
magiging talented talaga. But this allows
my students to work at their own pace
and develop their skills without feeling
overwhelmed or under-challenged.

• Collaborative Group Work
• Student-Centered Discussions
• Peer Teaching and Feedback
Collage teacher
- in English language teaching, I use
collaborative storytelling, where my
students can work together to create a
story, sharing ideas, practicing language
skills, and supporting each other. Another
inclusive activity I employ is "jigsaw
reading," where different groups read
different parts of a text and then teach
their sections to peers, promoting both
peer learning and a sense of responsibility.
