h time!
In the beginning

• In the beginning, there was nothing except Chaos

• From Chaos came Gaia and from Gaia came Uranus
(the heavens) and Pontus (the seas)
• Gaia and Uranus had many children together: the
12 Titans, the Cyclopes, and the Hekatonkeires.
• Uranus imprisoned the Cyclopes and
the Hekatonkeires in Tartarus because he thought they were
too ugly.
• This angered Gaia so she convinced Kronos to kill his father.
• Using a sickle, Uranus dismembered his father and threw
the pieces into the sea.
• He freed his siblings and became the ruler of the titans.
Kronos waned a snack
• Kronos received a prophecy that his son would
overthrow him
• So, he ate the first five of his children when they
were presented to him
• Instead of their sixth child, Rhea gave a rock to
Uranus instead which he swallowed.
• To keep him safe, Rhea took baby Zeus to
Crete where he was hidden in a cave
• The Curetes made loud noises every time
Zeus cried so that Uranus would not hear and
find him.
• Zeus was raised on goat's milk and honey
and grew up still hidden on the island.
Zeus as king
• Zeus became Kronos's cupbearer when he had grown up.
• He put mustard and salt into Kronos's drink which made
him sick
• He threw up first the rock then Poseidon, Hades, Hera,
Demeter, and Hestia
• Zeus declared him king of the gods and he and
his brothers drew lots on what part of the word
they should rule.
• Zeus got the skies, Poseidon the seas and
Hades the underworld.
• They then prepared to fight the titans
• With help from the Hekatonkeires they won and banished
