Types and usage of
washing machines and
dryers used in
housekeeping
 Dryers- a machine used to remove
moisture of laundry items using heat or
air.
 Washing Machines- also known as
clothes washer or a machine designed
to wash laundry items.
 Hotels that opt to have their laundering
facilities within their premises invest in heavy
duty industrial washing machines. This reduces
storage space from soiled linens are
expeditious laundering service can be enjoyed.
Most importantly, the establishment is assured
of the quality of washed linens. This is the
reason why standard operating procedures
must be adhered to by hotel staff for the
purpose of consistency.

TYPES OF WASHING

MACHINES
Washing Machine may vary in sizes and can hold 5-200 kg of soiled
linens. The following are the types of washing machines used:

1.Top load Washing Machine is


the most common type. As its
name implies, the operating of
this type of washing is at the top
where clothes are loaded. People
who do not Want to bend when
loading or unloading the machine
prefer this type.
2. Front load Washing
Machine has its opening at the
front side of the machine. In the
Philippines, this type of washing
machine is not common but in
Europe most households and
establishments are prefer this
type.

3. Continuous Batch Washers are for washing
large volume of linens in five star hotels. This
machine may be controlled by a computer to
load, unload, and dry linens automatically.
4. Semi-automatic
Washer have two tubs
attached. One is for the
washing machine and the
other is for the dryer.
5. Fully-automatic
washer have a single
tub for washing, rinsing,
and drying. When the full
cycle is complete, clothes
are fully dried.
TYPES OF DRYERS
 The following are the different types of dryers:

1. Tumble dryers use hot


air in drying the laundered
items. Items rotate or tumble
in a large drum allowing it to
dry without creasing. Big
tumble driers can rotate two
ways with a pause in
between. This allows the
laundry to dry fast.
2. Vented dryer discharge
water using a two meter
plastic hose.
3. Condenser dryer uses hot air
that is circulated through clothes
similar to vented type. The air
moisture is extracted and passed
through a device called heat
exchanger where heat recondenses
the water and stores it in a
receptacle. The dry air passed
through the tumbler again. The
container that holds the water from
the air moist can be emptied after
drying. This type of drier is more
expensive than the vented type.
3. Heat pump dryer uses air
that passes through a heat pump
to condense water vapor and then
forward it tot the drain pipe into
the water chamber. This water
collected ir reheated to be used
again on clothes. This is more
efficient but more costly than the
condenser type of dryer.
