INTRODUCTION
Britam Life Assurance Company (K) Ltd and the Government of Kenya have entered into a partnership that will offer
Insurance covers to members of the National Police Service (Kenya Police Service, Department of Criminal
Investigations & Administration Police Service) and Kenya Prisons Service as from April 1st2024 and the cover runs for
three (3) years.
With over 50 years of experience in the Insurance and Investments sector, Britam will be able to seamlessly offer
Insurance covers to members of these organizations across the country. The Insurance covers will offer all members
the following benefits;
Last Expense Group Life Assurance Work Injury Benefits Act (WIBA) Group Personal Accident (GPA)
All the members of the National Police Service and Kenya Prisons Service have automatically been enrolled into the
scheme as at 1st April 2024.
All current members and their spouses are covered from the age of 18 years. Children who are born alive are covered
up to 21 years. Students who are in full time school are covered up to the age of 25 years.
Children who are permanently and totally disabled are covered beyond the age of 25years.

The National Police Service and Kenya Prisons Service Group Life Assurance Scheme provides the following benefits: -
This is a funeral cash benefit whose purpose is to assist with funeral costs in the unfortunate
Last Expense Benefit-
event of your death, your spouse or your children.
This is a life insurance benefit that pays out a lump sum amount equal to five years of your
Death in Service benefit-
basic salary. This amount is paid to your nominated beneficiaries incase of death occurring at any time during the
insurance cover period.
This is a life insurance benefit that offers you protection against the following life-threatening
Critical Illness benefit-
illnesses:
Heart Attack Kidney Failure
Stroke Paraplegia
Cancer Severe Respiratory Illness including Covid19.
Coronary Artery Bypass Major organ transplant (Heart, liver, lungs, kidney, pancreas and bone
Surgery marrow)
Permanent and Total Disability benefits (illness)- This is a life insurance benefit that offers you protection against
total disability which may be occasioned by an illness and where this illness makes it impossible for you to continue
in employment.

The WIBA and Group Personal Accident scheme collectively cover the following benefits;
This refers to accidental injures leading to death in the course of employment.
Accidental Death Benefit:
Temporary TotalThis refers to a condition whereby a member is completely unable to perform any job
Disability : a temporary basis due to work related injuries and is given a sick-off by their attending doctor. This
functions on
benefit is payable to the employer.
Medical ExpensesRefunds
: out of pocket medical expenses reasonably incurred by a member as a result of an
accident that leads to injury in the course of their employment. This covers medical expenses (including
treatment travel costs) that are not covered by any other medical insurance cover.
