THE WEB: FROM THE

BEGINNING UNTIL
TODAY
INTRODUCTION TO THE WEB
The Web, also known as the World
Wide Web (WWW), is a system of
interlinked hypertext documents
accessible through the Internet. It
allows users to view and navigate
through web pages.
THE BIRTH OF THE WEB
(1989-1991)
The Web was invented by Tim
Berners-Lee in 1989 while working
at CERN. It was designed as a
platform for sharing information
across the Internet using
hyperlinks, HTTP, and HTML.
THE FIRST WEBSITE (1991)

The first website, info.cern.ch, was

launched in 1991. It was a basic
HTML page that explained the
concept of the World Wide Web and
how to use it. This was the beginning
of publicly accessible web content.
THE FIRST WEB BROWSER:
WORLDWIDEWEB
Tim Berners-Lee also developed
the first web browser, called
WorldWideWeb, in 1990. It
allowed users to navigate
between web pages, and it was
key in making the Web usable.
THE RISE OF THE WEB
(1990S)
Throughout the 1990s, the Web
grew rapidly, with the creation
of web browsers like Mosaic
(1993) and Netscape Navigator
(1994), making the Web more
accessible to the general public.
THE DOT-COM BOOM AND E-
COMMERCE (1995-2000)
The commercialization of the Web
led to the rise of e-commerce.
Companies like Amazon, eBay, and
Yahoo! became pioneers of online
business during this period, leading
to the dot-com boom.
WEB 2.0 AND SOCIAL MEDIA
(2000S)
Web 2.0 introduced interactive and
user-generated content, changing
the Web from static pages to
dynamic platforms. Social media
platforms like Facebook, YouTube,
and Twitter emerged during this era.
MOBILE WEB AND
SMARTPHONES (2010S)
With the rise of smartphones, the
Web became accessible to users on
the go. Mobile web browsing
surpassed desktop usage in the
2010s, leading to mobile-first web
development.
THE FUTURE OF THE WEB:
WEB 3.0
Web 3.0 is the next stage of the Web,
focusing on decentralization,
blockchain, and intelligent data. It
promises a more personalized,
secure, and user-controlled
experience, shaping the future of the
Web.
