There are 3 Simple Steps to Divide Fractions:
Step 1. Copy the first term.
Step 2. Change division to multiplication sign.
Step 3. Turn the second fraction (the one you want to divide by) upside down
(this is now a reciprocal).
Step 4. Multiply the numerators and the denominators.
Step 5. Simplify the fraction (if needed)

Dividing Mixed
Fractions
Steps in Dividing mixed Fractions
1. Converting mixed numbers to
improper fractions.
2. Dividing Improper Fractions
3. Converting Improper Fractions Back
Into Mixed Numbers
Converting mixed numbers to
improper fractions.
Step 1. Converting mixed numbers to improper fractions.
Multiply the whole number by the denominator.
Step 2. Add the
numerator to the product.

Step 3. Place the

sum over the original
denominator.
Dividing Improper Fractions

Step 1. Write the new division

problem.

Step 2. Take the reciprocal of the second

fraction.
Step 3. Multiply the numerators.

Step 4. Multiply the denominators.

Step 5. Simplify your answer, if possible. .

Converting Improper Fractions Back Into
Mixed Numbers
Step 1. Divide the numerator by the denominator.
Step 2. Turn the remainder into the numerator
of your fraction. Place this numerator over the
original denominator. This will give you the fraction
of your mixed number.

Step 3. Combine the whole number and the fraction.
