Definition of Terms
TRAFFIC MANAGEMENT-Refers to the
planning ,organizing,directing,and controlling the safe economic
and expiditious movements of people and goods through traffic.
TRAFFIC ENGINEERING-Includes the geometric design of
streets,traffic control devices and traffic operation.
TRAFFIC EDUCATION-Process of teaching and training conducted
towards pedestrians,commuters,and drivers to develop them to
become courteous,discipline and competent roadusers.
TRAFFIC ENFORCEMENT-Includes the traffic direction and
control,traffic accident investigation and apprehension,performed by
the police and other agency with authority to include voluntary
compliance.
TRAFFIC CITATIONS-Means of having violators appear in court
without physical arrest.
TRAFFIC PATROL-Consist of police visibility to the road for the
purposes of traffic law enforcement and police relations.

-The control of the movement of road users according to proportionate time through traffic
signal or hand gesture.
Objectives

2.To maintain the smooth flow of traffic
-A typical traffic enforcer must be tall enough to be seen by motorist, good grooming because
he/she is the show window of the police force.

Points Considered in Selecting Traffic Positions


1. Must see all the approaching vehicles and pedestrians
2. Must handle all vehicles turning movements
3. Must direct vehicles and pedestrian when traffic arises
4. Must always be safe is the most important

APPLICATION OF ROAD SIGNS
AND TRAFFIC LIGHTS
Three (3) Classification of road signs
1.REGULATORY SIGNS-Regulate the movement of traffic to comply with the directions constitute an
offense. They are subdivided into:
a. PROHIBITORY SIGNS OR RESTRICTIVE SIGNS
c. MANDATORY SIGNS-To notify motorist of special rules in which they must
comply with the safety, convenience and smooth flow of traffic.
2. INFORMATIVE/GUIDE signs-Inform and advice road users of condition of directions, distance,
routes, locations of services for road users.
3.WARNING SIGNS-Warn road users of condition on the adjacent to the road which may be
unexpected or hazardous.

Right turn- GO WHEN CLEAR
2. RED
Straight- STOP
Left turn-STOP

TECHNIQUES IN TRAFFIC
DIRECTION AND CONTROL
Keep intersection open
Stop vehicles at designated stopping lanes
Never stop vehicle near you
Never allow motorist to cross your
intersection when there is no exit.
When the traffic signal is in conflict with the
traffic enforcer the latter prevails.
When two or more vehicles are about to
obstruct your intersection stop all vehicle.

1. Keep opposing lanes and
intersection open.
2.In a heavy ,slow or stopped traffic, no
